I'm Brittany Carlton, a ceramic artist based in Nashville, TN.
I make both functional and sculptural pieces inspired by folklore, mythology, and the quiet mysteries of the natural world. Working primarily in wheel-thrown and altered stoneware, I incorporate organic and fantastical imagery through sculpted elements and stamped textures made with handmade tools and found objects like seashells and tree nuts. My surfaces invite touch — evoking nostalgia and stirring a sense of wonder through tactile detail and rich visual storytelling.
I aim to spark an emotional response in the viewer or user, awakening feelings of comfort, connection, and belonging. Much of my imagery is drawn from childhood memories of time spent outdoors, where early encounters with plants and animals fostered a lasting sense of kinship with nature. Mythology and folktales also inform my visual storytelling, weaving a narrative thread throughout much of my work.
In addition to maintaining a committed and evolving studio practice, I work in nonprofit arts marketing. My background supporting other artists has sharpened my aesthetic instincts and affirmed my belief in the transformative power of art and handmade objects to help us better understand ourselves and the world we share.
